This page is a resource for information on our trip to the Florida Sea Base - June 12-19, 2019.
Troops 427 & 438 currently are enjoying the Florida Keys with five sailboats! An adventure of a lifetime.
Florida Sea Base - June 12-19, 2019
Departure for Florida Sea Base was 7am Wednesday morning, June 12, 2019 with a Coach Bus taking us to Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP) Airport for a flight to Miami, FL. From there we stayed in a Hotel overnight and depart for the Florida Sea Base on Thursday morning for 5 nights/6 days of sailing. We will return to the Sea Base Tuesday afternoon and stay in the Sea Base dorms on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday June 19, 2019 we have a return flight to Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP) Airport with a Coach Bus returning the group to Wausau Wednesday evening.
Get ready for sailing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and living on the high seas for a week that you will remember for the rest of your lives!

- (4 Copies) of the Health form plus 4 copies of an Insurance Card are needed for the Sea Base Risk Advisory Medical Requirements Form is Due at the Mandatory Meeting April 7th, 2019. Please hand the forms into Mr. Pease or Mrs. Krasowski. If your physical is scheduled after April 7th, you need to let Mrs. Krasowski know so we can plan accordingly. (This health form is for High Adventure and different than the one used for Camp Tesomas. Health Form must be completed by certified and licensed physicians (MD, DO), nurse practitioners, or physician assistants)

- The BSA Swim Test was completed on Sunday March 17th. If you missed the Swim Test Troop 427 will have another BSA Swim Test coming up Tuesday April 16th at the YMCA Snorkeling Event. All Scouts and Adult Leaders must pass the BSA Swimmers Test before we leave for Florida.
- Swimmers pass this test: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating. (non-swimmers and beginners are not eligible for this trip)
- We have 5 sail boats with the Coral Reef Sailing Sea Base Adventure. Each sail boat is over 40 feet long. In addition to the sail boat's captain, each sailboat can carry six scouts and two adult leaders. That means we have room for 30 scouts and 10 adult leaders.
- All Scouts that would like to participate need to be 13 years old by June 13, 2019 and be able to pass the BSA swimmer test.
- Adults must be registered BSA leaders, have current Youth Protection, Hazardous Weather Training, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat training and be able to pass the BSA swim test. At lease one Adult Crew member on each boat must be certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.

- Monthly Swimming Sessions beginning 6 months prior to arrival. We have scheduled at the Woodson Downtown YMCA a Snorkeling & Swimming Event On Tueday February 5th and Tuesday April 16th, 2019. Highly recommend all participants attend each session. We will also schedule a BSA Swimmers Test at some point this spring. Details to follow.

- In my.scouting.org once you log in go to My Training, then Training Center, then Expanded Learning (including Hazordous Weather), then Program Safety, which opens up Program Safety, click on Program Safety and do the following required training
- Hazardous Weather Training SCO-800
- Safe Swim Defense SCO-801
- Safety Afloat SCO-802
- All Adults must pass the BSA Swim Test as a Swimmer
- All Adult Leaders must have completed Youth Protection Training
- All Adult Leaders must be Trained as an Assistant Scoutmaster or Troop Committee.
How to Pay for Florida Sea Base - Scholarship Deadline was February 1, 2019 for 3 Scholarships

(PAST DEADLINE) Troop 427 Camp Scholarship Request Form Available for members of Scouts BSA Troops 427 - This form is completely confidential and is only seen by the Scoutmaster and the Troop Camp Scholarship Committee. Scoutmaster Signature Required. Form needs to be submitted to Troop Committee Chair Mr. Peter Raschke by February 19th, 2019.
- (PAST DEADLINE) Florida National High Adventure Sea Base Scholarship Application(PDF Form) Needs to be submitted before the February 1st deadline. This Scholarship requires a 2 part Essay and a Recommendation Letter from your Scoutmaster. All materials need to be sent to: Florida Sea Base, PO Box 1906, Islamorada, Florida 33036.
- (PAST DEADLINE) Samoset Council Campership Application Needs to be submitted to the Samoset Office by February 1st, 2019 Scoutmaster Signature Required.

- We recommend you down load the Budget Worksheet and spend time with your parents on how to earn enough money to go on this adventure.
- Troop 427 has plenty of opportunities to raise funds for Florida Sea Base. The woodpile is our main fundraiser, as well as selling popcorn. We will also have a Brat Stand scheduled this spring. We also sell Kwik Trip car wash cards and work at the Jaycee Fundraiser.
How to Sign Up:
- To secure the final spot (Available only for a Scouts BSA female youth or an adult leader), you need to make your $200 deposit and payment from the plan below. We accept reservations on a first come, first served basis. Scout account funds may be used if you have sufficient funds in your account-- just let Mr. Pease know that's what you'd like to do. Checks should be payable to Troop 427.
- After the initial Deposit of $200 there are payments of $400 due on June 1st, September 1st, and December 1st, 2018. Final Payment of $400 will be due March 1st, 2019. See Budget Worksheet below for more details on payments and ways to earn money for this High Adventure. There is also links to the Florida Sea Base Scholarship Application and the Samoset Council Campership.
